Join us each Wednesday in May as we study the Book of Romans.

The book of Romans teaches believers many important truths about the Christian faith and life. Here are some key teachings from the Book of Romans:

1. Salvation by Faith: Perhaps the central theme of Romans is the concept of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 3:22-24 (NLT) says, "We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."

2. Righteousness Apart from the Law: Paul emphasizes that righteousness does not come through following the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 3:28 (NLT) states, "So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law."

3. Consequences of Sin: Romans also teach about humanity's universal sinfulness and its consequences. Romans 6:23 (NLT) says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord."

4. Freedom from Sin: Through faith in Christ, believers are set free from the power of sin. Romans 6:6-7 (NLT) states, "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ, we were set free from the power of sin."

5. Life in the Spirit: Romans teaches about the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer and the freedom and transformation that comes from walking in the Spirit. Romans 8:1-2 (NLT) says, "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death."

6. God's Sovereignty and Plan: Romans also discusses God's sovereignty and His plan for Jews and Gentiles to be saved through faith in Christ. Romans 9-11 addresses the relationship between Israel and the Church, emphasizing God's faithfulness to His promises.

7. Living Sacrifices: Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) urges believers to live as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, by offering their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."
